We are a commercial farm based in the Great Hungarian Plain in the southwest of Hungary, in the small town of Soltvadkert. I was born and raised in this town and traveled to the UK when I was younger and there I met my South African born husband. We moved back to Hungary to help my family, and have 2 young children. We have now taken of over the family farm which is in need of lots of work focusing on raising animals namely fallow and red deer, mangalica pigs(a Hungarian long haired domestic pigs) sheep, goats, poultry, lamas, emus and have 3 hobby horses. The pigs we are rearing are sold to produce organic Hungarian salami that is made from Hungarian Grey Cattle or Hungarian Steppe Cattle and Buffalo. Daily tasks at the moment are the feeding and care of the over 60 deer, 8 sheep,3 horses, 10 goats, 100 pigs, 4 lamas, many rabbits, 2 emus many poultry, and 2 dogs we have. These spaces also need regular maintenance. We shop at the local farmers market for fruit and veg. There is a small lake in town that is used to cool off in the very hot summers and for ice skating in the cold winter. It is a place where the 4 seasons are distinct and offers a unique life experience. We look forward to hearing from people who are interested in helping and learning about Hungarian culture and traditions, based on a small rural community.
Organic methods: All our animals are fed without chemicals.
Type of work: our goal is to clean up the farm and make new spaces for animals.
