Welcome to Ferme Grin
Nestled on the edge of the village of Belmont-sur-Yverdon, just a few kilometres from
Yverdon-les-Bains, Ferme Grin is a one-hectare organic market garden with stunning views across the Jura Mountains.
We grow a wide variety of seasonal vegetables which are sold directly at the farmer's
markets in Yverdon-les-Bains and Lausanne. Our aim is to produce healthy, flavorful food while respecting the soil, biodiversity and the natural balance of the environment.
The property is shared with my sister, who works with horses in therapeutic activities. You will also meet our chickens, rabbits, two dogs and three cats, all of which are part of daily life on the farm. Although the farm enjoys a peaceful rural setting, it remains easily accessible thanks to a nearby bus stop.
Our Philosophy
Ferme Grin draws inspiration from permaculture, regenerative agriculture and bio-intensive market gardening on a small scale. Our approach is influenced by the work of Jean-Martin Fortier, Charles Dowding and Richard Perkins, among others.
We keep soil disturbance to a minimum in order to preserve its structure and biological
activity. Much of the work is carried out by hand, and we are constantly experimenting with new methods that promote soil fertility, biodiversity and long-term sustainability.
We also place great importance on crop diversity. Alongside traditional vegetables, we grow yellow and white zucchini, red, yellow and purple carrots, heirloom tomatoes, specialty radishes and many other colorful varieties that bring originality and flavor to our market stand. Most of our seedlings are produced on the farm, from seed to harvest.
What You Will Learn
Depending on the season, you may take part in:
- Sowing and seedling production
- Planting and crop maintenance
- Harvesting vegetables
- Preparing produce for market
- Managing crops grown in polytunnels
- Discovering organic and regenerative market gardening techniques
- Understanding how a small-scale direct-sale farm operates
This experience offers an opportunity to discover the full production cycle of an organic
market garden, from sowing seeds to selling vegetables directly to customers.
After completing university studies and spending several years working in a completely
different field, I decided to change direction and pursue a career in agriculture. I graduated as a market gardener in 2023 and launched Ferme Grin in 2024. I am also a musician, so it is not uncommon for our workdays to be accompanied by music.
The atmosphere on the farm is simple, friendly and respectful of everyone's pace and personality. This is a small-scale farm where I work mostly on my own, with occasional help from a friend. Welcoming WWOOFers therefore represents both valuable support and a wonderful opportunity for cultural exchange and shared experiences.
If you enjoy nature, meaningful projects, life outdoors, good conversations and learning new skills, I would be delighted to welcome you to this little corner of paradise in the Swiss countryside.
