We are a German family who immigrated to South Africa and now live on a 200-hectare game farm on the border of Addo Elephant National Park in the Eastern Cape. Besides running our small guest lodge, we are building a self-sufficient and sustainable lifestyle based on permaculture and organic farming principles.
We grow fruits, vegetables and herbs, produce our own eggs and dairy products, and care for a variety of animals including cattle, sheep, goats, horses, donkeys, chickens, geese, dogs and cats. Wildlife such as zebras and many native animals can also be seen on the farm.
Our goal is to live as sustainably as possible while sharing this beautiful place with guests and volunteers from around the world.
Life on the farm is varied and every day is different. Typical tasks include feeding animals, collecting eggs, gardening, planting, weeding, harvesting vegetables, maintaining fences, cutting firewood, bush clearing, repairing buildings, painting, and helping with renovation projects in our guest accommodations.
Depending on the season, volunteers may also assist with milking, making dairy products, maintaining irrigation systems, caring for horses and other animals, or general farm maintenance.
We are happy to share our knowledge about self-sufficiency, organic gardening, permaculture, animal care, sustainable living, and the realities of running a farm and lodge in rural South Africa.
WWOOFers stay in comfortable accommodation on the farm and have access to bathroom facilities, hot showers, electricity and Wi-Fi when available. Please note that we live in a rural area and occasional power or internet interruptions can happen.
We provide three meals per day. Whenever possible, meals include fresh produce from our gardens, eggs from our chickens, dairy products from our animals, and other home-grown ingredients. We enjoy sharing meals together and volunteers are welcome to join family life while also having their own private time.
We enjoy horse riding, gardening, cooking, exploring nature, wildlife photography, hiking and spending time outdoors with our animals.
Our farm borders Addo Elephant National Park, one of South Africa's most famous wildlife destinations. During free time, volunteers can enjoy game viewing, nature walks, bird watching, horseback riding, visiting local attractions, exploring nearby towns, or relaxing and enjoying the peaceful bush surroundings. The beautiful beaches of the Eastern Cape are also within driving distance.
