Organic avocado, coffee, mangosteen, egg and milk farm
Colombia
Hi my name is Marcela, my husband and I live on a farm in Colombia. We have 4 dogs a cat and lots of chickens. We also have 15 cows. We love that we live in a very peaceful place and we eat lots of fruits fresh eggs and milk.
A typical day for us is waking early to feed all of our animals, milking the cows, picking eggs, picking avocados, plantains, cacao or mangosteen. In our farm you could learn how to plant, fertilize and harvest fruits. Take care of cows, milk them and see the beauty of a calf being born. Make products with our fresh milk, repair fences and get rid of ants.
We eat healthy meals. Breakfast usually consists of fresh eggs, baked bread, freshly squeezed orange juice, coffee and fruits and cheese. Lunch is usually a hot meal consisting of a protein vegetables and a starch. Dinner is usually a light meal. We eat out on the porch where you can enjoy the peace and beautiful of the farm.
My husband and I enjoy daily hikes around the farm. We can also go horseback riding and swimming. Once a week we go down to town to go grocery shopping and enjoy an ice cream if we want.

My Wwoofing experience with Marcela and Terry at El Rancho was really an outstanding one!
Starting from the good communication prior to my stay, to the warm welcome and "instant integration" into the family upon arrival, to the appreciation of the work I did and of simply having me around. They were curious about my story and happy to share thier own. The accommodation was great and the food they offered was delicious and plentiful.
The work and general schedule are really well organized, and Marcela is pretty straightforward about what she wants from you. Although the work hours are a bit longer than most places (we usually started work at 6 am and finished at 3 pm), they grant you two generous breaks for breakfast and lunch and always make sure that you feel up to the task and are not overwhelmed or overworked. During my time at El Rancho, I worked on improving the fences and trails, digging ditches for drainage and water lines, pruning hedges and picking up clippings, harvesting cocoa, cleaning banana plants and the fruit lots, fumigating fruit trees, building a wooden bench, and helping to milk the cows and to make cheese and pan de yuca. On two occasions Marcela took me to the neighboring farm to see the process of panela production from sugar cane, which was very interesting.
I am incredibly grateful for this experience and would come back any time! Thanks for everything, you two!
It was a pleasure getting to know you!

Our stay at El Rancho was exceptional. The level of hospitality made our WWOOF one of the best months of our lives! The hosts provide meaningful work and a welcoming atmosphere, making us feel productive and appreciated.
The work is varied, based on the needs of the farm and the unique strengths, skills, and interests of the volunteers. Marcela is an organized and patient teacher, explaining tasks clearly and ensuring that all necessary tools are provided. She is also generous with praise, making the work deeply rewarding.
Meals are delicious and lovingly prepared using farm-fresh fruits, dairy, and breads. Helping make traditional foods offered a window into the culture. Breakfast and lunch are shared with the hosts, and dinner is more informal and enjoyed independently.
The accommodations are comfortable, featuring a private room, shared bathroom and kitchen. While there is a covered outdoor lounge for us, during the evenings when the biting flies were out the hosts welcomed us into their home. A swim in the saltwater pool after a hot day in the fields was a luxurious and highly anticipated part of our daily routine.
Leaving El Rancho was difficult. It felt like leaving family. Between the hospitality, the skill-building, and the incredible food, this was an unforgettable WWOOFing experience. We highly recommend El Rancho.

After a 30-minute mototaxi ride from town with Adolfo into the middle of nowhere, I arrived at Marcela and Terry’s beautiful El Rancho Farm. From the first moment, I felt truly welcomed. What followed was a very enriching WWOOF experience.
Marcela puts so much care into everything: providing a cozy room, reusable water bottles, teaching and a warm atmosphere. Three times a day we enjoyed fresh delicious food with vegetables, fruit, eggs, and dairy, (always meat-free options). Marcela welcomes any helping hand in the kitchen and you can learn how to make Colombian food like pan de yuca or arepas.
Living with up to three WWOOFers, we quickly became a team. Days began at 6 a.m. and tasks ranged from planting and pruning trees to making cheese, composting, harvesting cacao, and building or painting fences. Felipe and Alirior, the farm‘s two permanent workers occasionally need a helping hand.
Meals, especially breakfast at 8 a.m., were calm and social. After finishing work at 3 p.m., we relaxed by the pool, explored trails, or helped Terry with his puzzle. After sunset, you’re glad to escape the mosquitoes indoors.
Little traditions made it even more special: movie nights on Fridays, hikes to the nearby village for ice cream, and the simple joy of feeding chickens and collecting eggs.
These two weeks taught me so much. I leave with wonderful memories and hope to return one day.

Experiencing Marcela's and Terry's farm was a truely amazing experience! Not only are they welcoming and warmhearted people who are interested in you and your way of life, but also like to show you as many different things around the farm and typical Colombian dishes as possible. They would integrate me in all tasks and talks. I loved that I was able to learn a lot and that I could really feel like home.
Of course, the pool is a refreshing plus;)
Marcela and Terry, I thank you so much for giving me the opportunity and for being such good companions! I wish you lots of fun with all the wwoofers who will follow.
Miss you!
