Hi, we are Tilen and Mateja. Since 2016, we have been running a family regenerative farming project in northwestern Slovenia. The farm consists of a market garden, some arable fields, agroforestry systems and pastures for our pasture-raised laying hens, broilers and a herd of indigenous sheep. We practice Holistic Management and graze all animals for most of the year. We share the house with our two school-age sons, their grandmother, and two pet dogs. Our house is located in a semi-urban area and is not directly conected to our farm land. On a typical day, all the animals need to be tended to in the morning, which usually involves moving electric fences, chicken coops and pens, and providing food and water as needed. This is followed by various work tasks planned for the day, such as tending to the market garden, maintaining pastures, tree and shrub systems or working in the forest. We try to avoid the heat of the day as much as possible, so the working day can be divided into some work early in the morning and some in the afternoon or evening. In general, the work schedules are adjusted to the season, weather and the length of the day. We have a wealth of experience teaching people about farming that is in sync with nature and its patterns. Through work experience, WWOOFers can learn a lot about permaculture and regenerative agriculture - not only about techniques but also about the mindset required for holistically managed agriculture. WWOOFers can eat a variety of balanced mixed meals with the family. We try to include as many ingredients from our farm as possible. Despite the varied seasonal rhythm of the day, we try to stick to the meal times of 7am, 1pm, 7pm. Within walking distance our town has alot of amenities with a wide range of shops and other services. WWOOFers will get their own basic room in the same house, but separate from the family accommodation and their own bathroom with a standing shower and toilet. If desired, we can also arrange a camping space on the farm grounds. Our surroundings offer many opportunities for excursions and hiking in nature, including in the Julian Alps and Karavanke mountain ranges. Due to the proximity of rivers, lakes and high mountains, there are many options for water sports in the summer and seasonal winter sports. There are some cultural experiences and events happening locally, but for wider range, the capital Ljubljana is a 45-60 minute drive away. Our place also offers a very convenient starting point for some of most famous tourist attractions in our country.

I spent about three weeks with Tilen and his family and had a truly great experience. The tasks were varied and engaging, including growing vegetables, working with different animals, and gathering firewood, which kept each day interesting. Tilen brings a broad and deep understanding of many topics, ranging from holistic farming and grazing systems to ecosystems and history, along with many meaningful conversations. He shares his insights in a very engaging way, which adds real depth to the experience and makes the work feel meaningful. I’m very thankful to Tilen and Mateja for their openness and hospitality. They create a really friendly and welcoming atmosphere together with their lovely family and dogs, which makes it easy to feel comfortable from the beginning. The food was always high quality and delicious. The area also offers countless opportunities to enjoy nature. It was a very positive and enriching stay. I will definitely miss them.

Tilen and his family were an absolute joy to stay with! Tilen has a wealth of knowledge on regenerative farming and a decade of experience on his well established farm. He is more than happy to teach and answer questions about both his farming practice and Slovenia’s culture, history, etc. The whole family was extremely welcoming and kind, I had nothing but a wonderful experience. They will be missed!

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Tilen &Mateja and the family for their warm welcome and hospitality. They are truly responsible and caring hosts! The daily work was always clear and transparent, Tilen patiently showed us how to carry out every task, which made the learning process rewarding. I also had the chance to gain valuable knowledge about holistic and regenerative farming from him. One idea that stayed with me is his philosophy: ‘if you focus on the physiology of animals and plants a lot, the actions come right.’ I could truly see this reflected in the way the farm is run. I am grateful to Mateja and the grandma, who prepared delicious meals every day. We would sit around the table sharing food and meaningful conversations about culture, agriculture, philosophy, and language etc. Each WWOOFer brought their own uniqueness, which created a wonderful atmosphere, and we lived, worked, and learned together like a real family, with the kids and dogs. They also enriched our rest days by introducing us to unique local attractions. Tilen even drove us to some of these places and gave excellent travel advice when we arrived and left. I could feel how the chickens, sheep, and goats lived with great vitality under his care. It touched me deeply, and I truly felt that I belonged there. It was an honor and privilege to be part of such a family and such a farm.

We cannot thank Tilen and Mateja enough for this unforgettable experience! We had a wonderful time, learning so much about Slovenia’s history, and about holistic farming practices. So many insights into food production, and how Tilen follows the laws of nature in his regenerative methods. The work expectations were very fair and tasks were interesting. There is much to see in the area and Tilen was extremely helpful in assisting us to do some sightseeing (it is appreciated if you come prepared with a rough plan). Thank you to this lovely family for the delicious food, sharing of culture, and games around the table. We will miss you very much.

I had a wonderfull stay at Tilen and Mateja's! You can choose to sleep on the farm or in a super-comfortable room in their own house. There you can share meals with the whole family, eat the best tiramisu ever made by the grandmother, and play a board game with the eldest son. I immediately felt welcome and at home! Most of the time, we worked a few hours early in the morning to take care of the animals, then later in the evening. Which I found very conviniant as we had a lot of free time in the afternoon that we could devote to explore the surroundings. Tilen is the best guide you could hope to learn more about Slovenian culture and history, and I am very grateful for all the “privatized touristics tours” he took us in. He is passionate about holistic management and really enjoys sharing his vision of agriculture. I learned a lot and couldn't have hoped for a better experience! Hvala lepa 🐑
