Building a small mountain farm
Montenegro
We are Anastasia and Milosh, living on a small farm in the forest, surrounded by mountains, creating a simple and mindful life, filled with care for nature, animals, and our home.
We have recently moved here and are happy to share this place with our little family of animals: two friendly dogs and three cats. We also keep two cows with calves, chickens, quails, and plan to get rabbits soon.
As we are still settling in, we especially need help with building projects and developing the farm. Main tasks include:
🐔 Building a chicken coop and rabbit cages
🐂 Taking care of the animals
🏚️ Restoring an old stone house that will be used as a barn for cattle
🌿 Cutting trees, clearing space, and digging beds
🔨 Helping build a bathroom for volunteers
Life on the farm can be physically demanding, so we’re looking for someone who enjoys being active outdoors, is motivated to work hard, and is eager to learn a variety of farm tasks. Previous hands-on experience is a plus, and it’s important to be mindful and attentive, especially when it comes to safety. Some tasks may involve using tools for building work, while others include caring for large animals like cows, so a good level of awareness and responsibility is essential.
Accommodation is available in a separate room in the house. It’s not fully finished yet, but the basic amenities are ready. You can also stay in a tent if you prefer!
We usually share at least one meal a day all together as a family. If you have any food preferences or dietary needs, just let us know in advance and we’ll do our best to accommodate them.
Please keep in mind that most city activities are not available here. However, there are small village shops about a 30-minute walk away if you need something.
We’ll be glad not only to share work time with you, but also to enjoy days off together, going hiking, swimming in the mountain rivers, or simply relaxing in nature.
If you’re interested in living in the peaceful forest, surrounded by mountains and animals, while helping to build a home and farm from the heart, we would love to welcome you!

I had a wonderful 1,5 week stay with Anastasia and Milosh. They are incredibly kind, open/straight-forward, and will do whatever they can to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. You will work primarily with Milosh; he is a great mentorship figure who values curiosity and cooperation. There are high expectations regarding work duration and quality within the context of wwoof volunteer work, but if you are looking for a chance to work hard and learn a lot, you will have a wonderful stay here. Anastasia is also an absolutely fantastic chef, and the animals (especially the 2 dogs) provide a lot of entertainment and smiles in your free time.

I had an incredible six weeks volunteering with Miloš and Anastasia. There was a variety of tasks to do such as insulating the house, restoring furniture, resurfacing some of the road and more. Miloš was very helpful at showing and teaching me lots of new skills. I have been truly inspired by their dedication to creating their own homely farmstead in the mountains of Montenegro and have learnt so much about sustainable living, DIY and renovation. This volunteering experience has been everything I hoped for and more. When you are not working the dogs Donna and Bandi and the cats Sivi, Noddy and Cheri will provide endless entertainment - I was also given days off to go and explore other parts of the country. From a health perspective I felt great while I was there too. The work kept me active and Anastasia’s cooking will make you want to eat there for the rest of your life. If you are open-minded and enjoy living alongside nature, I would highly recommend volunteering here. Thank you for hosting me Miloš and Anastasia, I will never forget this experience and hope to return in the future!

Crazy in a good way!
Intelligent, passionate, kind, and responsive.
We had a wonderful time, got a lot done around the house, and had a great time relaxing.
I'm very happy and grateful to have worked with this young family!

Anastasia and Milos are two beautiful and kind people. We spent one week at their place and we had a really good experience.
Anastasia was taking care of us with really good meals and providing everything we needed, while we were working with Milos at the house.
The surrounding is wild and beautiful. Mountains, a spring, figs tree, the forest and in the night a sky full of stars.
Close to the house there is a beautiful river we went to one day. Absolute perfect.
We also had a big dog that became best friend of their 2 dogs and they had a lot of fun while we were working.
3 cats, many chickens and the quails are also part of the family.

Hello,
I spent very interesting eight days at Milosh´s and Anastasias place. It is beautifully located on a small mountain next to a larger valley with a garden full of fruit trees, vegetables and herbs and a great view. The living conditions themselves were a bit rough with a privy, sleeping on the construction side and a kitchen without running water in the house, but after the renovation is completed, the conditions will be better. The work consisted mainly of cutting down bushes and trees, which was a nice activity. Unfortunately, due to illness in the family of the hosts, I was alone almost the whole time, so I cooked and ate alone. During my stay it became clear, that Milosh and I had different expectations regarding the scope of the work. I have worked 32 hours during this week, but unfortunately Milosh was not happy with, what I have achieved. Because of that I ended up paying part of my meals. To sum up, I enjoyed having this adventurous time. Next time I would talk about the mutual expectations more detailed.

Thanks Steffen.
We feel disappointed with the review as it left out key context.
Our side of the story:
We offered Steffen a private room at the house we are renting with full amenities, but he chose to stay on the farm and was aware of the rustic conditions. He was informed he could leave anytime because we were busy fighting for Milosh's brother's life, who is right now abroad in life threatening situation waiting for liver transplant.
We provided groceries though many were left uneaten. Also Steffen declined to pick up meals cooked by Anastasia and preferred to buy processed snacks and alcohol, which we didn’t agree to cover.
He requested to work outdoors clearing bushes, which we arranged. From the beginning he mentioned the work is hard and he could work less and asked for extra day off to go to north or Montenegro. The work outcome for so many days didn’t meet our expectations. We chose not to bring it up until he asked for money for the food at the end.
Clearer communication about expectations would have made for a better experience on both sides

We stayed with Miloš and Anastasia for a week. We mainly helped Miloš to renovate the old house, where several hands and brains were welcome. The teamwork went smoothly: we were able to think well together about how best to tackle the work, and there was room to laugh and philosophize during lunch. After work, Anastasia always welcomed us with a good meal, even though we had different eating habits. So nice to have fresh cheese, milk and kefir daily, straight from their own animals! Evenings always ended in nice talks. Halfway through the week we felt the need to re-align expectations, they were open to this and this made our stay a success. We enjoyed contributing our bit to this start-up homestead.
