Soy Grace, una de las coordinadoras de Valle las Nubes, una escuela creada con mucho amor para jóvenes mujeres que han egresado de casas hogar o provienen de comunidades rurales cercanas. Nuestro objetivo es brindarles una formación integral que les permita convertirse en técnicas agrícolas, con una especialización en alguna de las siguientes áreas: botánica textil, carpintería y herrería, cocina saludable, o cosmética y medicina natural. Contamos con un espacio de tres hectáreas donde cultivamos un huerto de plantas medicinales, árboles para eco-print, árboles nativos, zonas de nopaleras, un invernadero de jitomates criollos, además de gallinas y borregos. Todo esto forma parte del entorno donde ellas aprenden, experimentan y se preparan para un futuro autónomo y sostenible. Podemos ofrecer dormitorio compartido para mujeres; en caso de ser hombres no podriamos ofrecer dormitorio, solo las prácticas durante el día. Algunas de nuestras actividades más comunes incluyen: Sembrar desde semilla y realizar técnicas como acodos o esquejes para propagar nuestras plantas. Cosechar y secar plantas medicinales, que luego utilizamos para preparar remedios naturales. Construcción con madera o metal, donde fabricamos desde bodegas pequeñas e invernaderos hasta muebles para uso dentro de la escuela. Siembra de árboles y nopales, que forman parte de nuestra reforestación y producción agroecológica. Diseño y elaboración textil, utilizando técnicas como el ecoprint y creando productos para las distintas áreas del huerto. Cuidado de animales, incluyendo la alimentación diaria de nuestras gallinas y borregos. Preparación de alimentos, tanto para el autoconsumo como para la venta, fortaleciendo la autonomía alimentaria y económica del proyecto. De lunes a viernes, el desayuno y la comida los preparamos y compartimos en familia. Cada día, una persona diferente se encarga de cocinar para todas y todos, lo cual también forma parte del aprendizaje y del trabajo en equipo. Los fines de semana y las cenas son responsabilidad individual, pero siempre contamos con una despensa básica disponible —verduras, frutas, semillas, pastas y huevo— para que cada quien pueda prepararse sus alimentos. Nuestra alimentación es en un 80% basada en plantas. Algunos días comemos pescado, y cuando celebramos cumpleaños o eventos especiales, disfrutamos de comidas festivas preparadas con cariño. Nos encantaría recibir a personas con intereses afines a nuestras áreas de trabajo, para que juntas/os podamos seguir aprendiendo y enriqueciendo este proyecto. My name is Grace, and I’m one of the coordinators at Valle las Nubes, a school created with great love for young women who have aged out of orphanages or come from nearby rural communities. Our mission is to provide them with a comprehensive education so they can become agricultural technicians with a specialization in one of the following areas: botanical textiles, carpentry and metalwork, healthy cooking, or natural cosmetics and medicine. We have a 3-hectare campus where we cultivate a medicinal herb garden, native trees, eco-print trees, cactus growing areas, a greenhouse with heirloom tomatoes, and we raise chickens and sheep. This land is where our students learn, grow, and prepare for a self-sufficient and sustainable future. Our Daily Activities Some of our most common activities include: Sowing seeds and using propagation techniques like layering and cuttings. Harvesting and drying medicinal plants, which we later use to make natural remedies. Woodworking and metalworking, including building storage sheds, greenhouses, and furniture for the school. Planting trees and cactus, as part of our agroecological and reforestation work. Textile design and creation, using eco-printing and other crafts to create items for our gardens and school areas. Animal care, including feeding and tending to our chickens and sheep. Cooking meals, both for our own consumption and for sale, supporting food sovereignty and financial autonomy. Each task is a chance to learn by doing, build new skills, and collaborate in community. Meals and Food Culture From Monday to Friday, we prepare and share breakfast and lunch as a family. Each day, someone takes on the responsibility of cooking for the whole group — it’s a beautiful part of our communal living and learning experience. On weekends and during dinner, each person prepares their own meals, but we always have basic ingredients available — vegetables, fruits, seeds, pasta, and eggs — so everyone can cook for themselves. Our diet is about 80% plant-based. Occasionally we include fish, and for birthdays or special celebrations, we prepare festive meals made with love. Who Are We Looking For? We’re looking for people who are passionate about the areas we work in, so we can continue learning from one another and growing this project together. Our school is located in a rural community surrounded by nature, perfect for walks to nearby rock formations (peñas). Valle las nubes ist ein wundervolles Projekt. Alle sind sehr herzlich und ich habe mich zu jeder Zeit gut aufgehoben gefühlt. Man kann viele verschiedene Arbeiten lernen und es ist absolut beeindrucken wie hart und ambitioniert sich alle für das Projekt einsetzen und mitarbeiten. Ich würde das Projekt auf jeden Fall weiterempfehlen. Valle las nubes es un proyecto maravilloso. Todos son muy cordiales y me he sentido muy bien acogida en todo momento. Se pueden aprender muchas tareas diferentes y es realmente impresionante lo duro y ambiciosamente que todos se comprometen y colaboran con el proyecto. Sin duda, recomendaría este proyecto.
