Since 2013 I decided to live simple life in the village next to city. My family consists of three people. I'm Volodymyr (47), my wife Zhanna (44), our daughter Tonya (8) they live currently in the city. The idea of sustainable living is on topic. I use solar power for fridge, power tools, electric bicycle. As I'm an engineer I can teach you how it works. I also practicing permaculture gardening, natural-building, traditional knowledge and technology. The small organic garden 0.1 ha. Surroundings area is agriculture fields, two big estuaries (Khadjibeisky and Kuyalnitskiy). Gardening tasks are dependent on season and weather. Spring, early summer main activities are around prepareing beds, soil, planting and watering. Soil requires mulching, different layers or composting materials. Some watering especially in summer is always needed. You'll know how ho to grow healthy soil and environment for plants. What is good to grow in this type of soil and weather conditions. How to make jam without sugar. Also you have possiblity to learn more in my mom's project in another region of Ukraine. Free transportation. There is a big livestock of goats. You'll learn how to make feta (homemade cheese), whole process, to grow plants. Accommodation will be in the house (3 separate beds -zone in the studio -room with kitchen an bathroom. Also additionally there is outside building with bed, and another mini - building for private living there. Power consumption 220V from solar panels (basic), and grid from my neighbour to use, optical fast internet, WiFi. There is always enough food and kitchen for cooking snacks, light meals anytime you need. Property has outside compost toilet, 1 well, 2 tanks of water. The place located far from frontline zone with russian army. But sometimes you'll hear sirens (drones attacks or rockets). Here is small concrete shelter in the ground with metal cap for this purpose. Hope this russian-ukrainian conflict will be melted soon Use bicycle or public transportation on your weekends anytime you need to get to the city of Odessa with its big history, catacombs, local cuisine, swimming in the sea, lot of activities...

Volodymyr is a great host who is very friendly and takes great care of his WWOOFers! Staying at his project was a great opportunity to experience permaculture gardening as well as the rich culture of Ukraine. I especially enjoyed making traditional Ukrainian foods like varenyky and kvas as well as being able to speak some Russian with him and his friends (even if my knowledge of the language is very poor). Odesa is a beautiful city, and I am glad I was able to see and experience it while staying at his project.

It was truly a joy to stay with Volodymyr and learn about his project. He is a kind host and always willing to show me around the local area. He is also, among other things, a good cook and knows how to produce meals using home grown vegetables and locally sourced ingredients. During my stay we made regular bike trips to the markets, catacombs, and the Black Sea for late night picnics and swimming among the jellyfish(!). He even gave me a professional and much needed haircut when I arrived. I hope to visit again in the future.
