Organic olive oil farm
Tunisia
Hello WWOOFers I am Mahdi 37 years old, supporting my families olive oil farm. At Elbaya farm we have been transitioning the past four years from monoculture to permaculture to become more sustainable and live in harmony with nature. Alongside farming experiences we also offer sports and movement practices to uplift our community.
Here at Elbaya Farm we are passionate about olive oil, seasonal farming, and beekeeping. We also home animals including sheep, chicken, ducks, a cow, a donkey, a horse, and a peacock. Our biggest harvests are olives, pomegranates, and almonds. As a volunteer you will have the opportunity to help and learn hands on through a variety of tasks including eco construction, animal keeping, planting, harvesting, water collection, beekeeping, greenhouse activities, and permaculture.
As a volunteer you are welcome to stay on our property in a private house, that may be shared with other volunteers. The accommodation includes a private and kitchen and restroom. You will have access to explore our 40 acre property including walking trails. One home cooked Tunisian meal will be provided daily or you may choose to cook for yourself. I am happy to take you to a local market once weekly for groceries.
I enjoy movement, music, playing instruments, reading, meditating, dance, traveling, soccer, yoga, boxing, calisthenics, and parkour. Nearby we have a river, and a cozy local town known for its famous pomegranates and cheese.

I stayed at Farm Elbaya for 2 weeks and I am superhappy with this experience! During the two weeks I got to work a lot which I really enjoyed. The work was fun and I got to try lot of different tasks. Everyday was different, some day you help with building and fixing and some other day you plant trees and help with beekeeping. Even though you havent done the task or used some tool before, Mahdi teaches you and lets you to try everything.
The farm is very beautiful, peaceful and calm. You can see that everything on the farm is made with love and purpose. You feel good and relaxed there! Mahdi and his family are very friendly and welcoming. I also enjoyed a lot to spend time with the animals.
The food that you get there is the best food that you will get in Tunisia! It is made my Mahdis mom and it is fresh, super delicious and organic.
I also enjoyed a lot to train with Mahdi. He is a great goach! His workouts are fun, diverse and playful and I got lot of inspiration from him for my own workouts. Especially I am excited to train more handstanding because with Mahdis help it got improved a lot, even just in 2 weeks!
If you are looking for some authentic experience in Tunisia from the local point of view, Farm Elbaya is a great choice for that!

I stayed for three weeks at Mahdi’s place, and my experience on his farm was truly wonderful.
I loved the place, everything is beautiful. Beyond that, I had the chance to work on so many different things; it was a really rich experience. I got to work with the bees, the sheep, and the chickens. We also worked with the pomegranate trees, and I even got to make pomegranate juice.
Mahdi and I also did some building and repair work to further develop and improve his farm.
I have to say, his farm is a really beautiful project. Combining organic farming, sports, and personal development is simply fantastic.
As for Mahdi, he was attentive, dedicated, and very good at teaching. You can really feel that it’s his passion that drives him and that he truly believes in his project.
Thank you, Mahdi!
And thank you as well to your family, who were also incredibly kind to me. For all of this, I’ll be forever grateful ❤️

My stay at the farm was my first woofing experience and I couldn't have asked for better!
All the people I met during these days, starting with Mahdi, the family and friends made this experience unique, educational and unforgettable.
The project is at the beginning and there are a lot of different works to be done.: farm works, DIY work, taking care of the shared kitchen, collective cooking days. A
ll the tasks envisaged have been agreed upon together according to the needs and desires of both parties, and this has led to many moments of dialogue and confrontation that have resulted in a profound enrichment of knowledge and skills that is respectful and full of curiosity.
I felt at home, as a part of a project that was already underway but which finds in the collective sharing of ideas and dreams of the people who pass through it the impetus to grow and become a place of aggregation, exchange of knowledge and dialogue of visions and experiences.
I cannot express my gratitude in words, but with a promise: I will definitely come back!
And for all the people who would like to get closer to the project: be curious, discover it, share your desires and your competences and have fun!

I am happy for having brough my grain of sand to the sustainable farming project that Mahdi is building (more details about the project in ig: holistic.athlete and ig: farmelbaya)
I spent 10 days in the farm, a typical day started with a morning yoga practice given by Mahdi. Then some miscellaneous taks related with the farm. For example: painting a wall, haversting onions, taking care of his horse, planting a tree (in my case it was a Lime), feeding the animals, watering the plants, etc...
There is no fix schedule. I organized my free time as I wanted, usually chilling in my room, riding bicycle around the farm or just hanging out around the fields seeing the animals (all of them are free to go whenever they want during the day: 1 peacock, 3 ducks, 4 gooses, sheeps, chickens, 1 donkey, 1 horse). The evenings for dinner we ate tunisian delicious dishes with friends that would visit the farm. It was interesting to meet other locals or having coffee in the town nearby (Testour). Ah, we also did a full day visit to a farm that is specialized in bee-keeping.
The hospitality has been great, plus feeling that I was contributing to a farm that offers such a diversity of activities - yoga, harvesting or animal care. Perhaps I will come back in autumn for the olive tree and pomegranate collecting season!

Farm Elbaya was an experience that will stay in my heart. Leaving the farm I feel grounded, nourished, and inspired. The time I spent here was immersive, I learned about Tunisian culture and authentic living. I was taught about permaculture and helped with a variety of projects including building, planting, animal keeping, etc. The farm is in its early stages of hosting which offered a variety of tasks to learn about, even business. I love the variety of animals including dogs, sheep’s, donkey, peacock, etc. I was given olive oil and almonds from a recent harvest, and wow. My stay was cozy, and I was provided with more food than I could eat. All the dishes were home cooked Tunisian meals.
A bonus I didn’t expect was Mahdi taught yoga and movement classes. It was a nourishing part of the routine here.
Mahdi was such a kind host, this was my first time WWOOFing and I was a bit nervous. He gave me a warm welcome and was responsive, providing whatever I needed while I was there. I would love to return!
Thank you Mahdi and Farm Elbaya 🩵
