Hi, I'm Elle, a 49-year-old permaculture farmer and passionate advocate for sustainable living. Originally from Malta, I left my career as an Allied Health Assistant to start a new chapter in Bina, Slovakia, with my family. Together, we've created Country Comfort Farma, where we live in harmony with nature, cultivating our land with permaculture principles and sharing the fruits of our labour through delicious homemade products. In May 2025, I published my first book, A Practical Guide to Sustainable Living and Introduction to Permaculture, sharing the knowledge and experience I've gained on this transformative journey. I live with my Slovak partner, Zara, who is integral to helping with the farm and our small farm-to-table shop. We’re also blessed with various animals who make our home even more vibrant, including our beloved dogs, Hope, Lucky, and Luna. We also have four cats, Pinna, Sam, Bubba, and Baggie, whose loyalty and gentle souls bring warmth to our days. Our core mission is to create a sustainable and fulfilling life rooted in permaculture principles. We grow pesticide-free fruits and vegetables, raise happy animals, and produce homemade jams, chutneys, and smoked meats, all while fostering a deeper connection to the environment. Beyond farming, we’re preparing to welcome visitors into this experience, where guests can immerse themselves in farm life and sustainable living. At the heart of everything we do is the desire to live thoughtfully and inspire others to embrace harmony with nature. At Country Comfort Farma, every day brings a variety of activities rooted in permaculture and sustainable farming practices. Our focus is on maintaining a harmonious relationship with nature, and we love sharing our knowledge with WWOOFers who come to learn and contribute. Typical Farming Activities: Gardening: Planting, weeding, watering, and harvesting seasonal fruits and vegetables grown without pesticides. Animal Care: Feeding and caring for our animals, including chickens, ducks, and other livestock. You’ll learn about their role in a permaculture system. Food Preservation: Preparing homemade products like jams, chutneys, smoked meats, and juices. This includes learning techniques like fermenting, canning, and vacuum sealing. Composting: Managing organic waste to create nutrient-rich compost for the garden. Permaculture Design: Helping with projects like mulching, building swales, or creating companion planting layouts. Farm Maintenance: Repairing fences, maintaining tools, or assisting with small construction projects like chicken coops or raised beds. What We’d Like to Teach WWOOFers: Permaculture Principles: How to design sustainable systems for food production and environmental care. Sustainable Cooking: Using fresh, seasonal ingredients from the farm to prepare meals with minimal waste. Animal Husbandry: Ethical care and management of farm animals. Homemade Product Crafting: The art of preserving food and creating marketable goods from farm produce. Self-Sufficiency: Skills for living off the land, including water conservation and energy efficiency. Accommodations: WWOOFers will stay in a cosy, private room within our farmhouse. We have one sofa bed with comfortable bedding, basic furnishings, and access to a bathroom. If you enjoy being closer to nature, you can camp within our premises, there is also the option for those travelling with a camper van to park in our drive, with access to clean facilities. Meals: Meals are a shared, family-style experience. We prioritize using fresh, seasonal ingredients from the farm, so you can expect wholesome, homemade dishes made with love. Breakfast: A hearty start to the day with fresh eggs, homemade bread, jams, and fruit from our orchard. Lunch: A larger meal featuring farm-to-table recipes like soups, stews, salads, and baked goods. Dinner: A lighter meal, often including homemade preserves, fresh vegetables, and comforting dishes. We love cooking and are happy to accommodate dietary preferences or restrictions with prior notice. WWOOFers are also welcome to join in the cooking process, where we’ll share tips and tricks for creating sustainable, zero-waste meals. We make an effort to keep the spaces simple yet inviting, ensuring they're warm in early spring and airy in summer. You’ll feel right at home surrounded by the charm of our farm. At Country Comfort Farma, we aim to provide WWOOFers with a warm, comfortable, and enriching experience that reflects our values of sustainability and hospitality. Additional Perks: Unlimited access to seasonal fruits, vegetables, and herbal teas from the garden. A communal atmosphere where we share stories, ideas, and knowledge around the table. Opportunities to learn how to preserve food or make homemade products like jams and chutneys. At Country Comfort Farma, we don’t just feed and house WWOOFers we invite them to become part of our family for the duration of their stay. You’ll leave not just with a full stomach, but with a full heart and new skills to carry forward. My Hobbies: Music: I love engaging with music, I love listening to world music, folk music and psychedelic music Cycling: The scenic routes around Bina and Štúrovo. These routes are perfect for cycling enthusiasts, offering both leisurely rides and challenging terrains. Hiking: There are hiking opportunities, with trails leading to breathtaking views and natural beauty. Reading: Immersing in a good book complements the tranquil environment of the farm, providing a peaceful retreat. Nearby is Sturovo and Esztergom

I had the most pleasing time at Elle and Zara's farm, I couldn't wish for better as a first woofing experience. I learned so much about permaculture : be mindful about choices and actions on the garden, how to keep a healthy soil, how each part of it matter and the community that is built around it. I also loved that Elle asked me a garden design as an excercice, as well as the variety in the the tasks, and I still had free time during the day. The animals were also really lovely ! A big thank you to you Elle and Zara, the 10 days were amazing and I felt very welcomed !

Hi! We stayed one week at the farm of Elle and had the opportunity to learn many interesting things. We experienced many practices of permaculture, cared for the farm animals, cuddled a lot with the cute dogs and cats, and had also a lot of free time and good food. Elle also teached us how to make a starter for sourdough and introduced some basic permaculture concepts through a beginner's course that she created. In general she was very friendly and open to answer all our questions, which made the experience all the more enjoyable :) In the time when we were there we experienced some preparation of seedlings, sowing, preparing the soil, mulching and we assisted some sheep shearing. We would definitely recommend visiting and helping out Elle on her farm :)

Thank you for your review, it means a lot to us. I believe Zara also played a part in your week-long stay. Your enthusiasm to learn was amazing, you are always welcome back. You also witnessed sheep shearing twice, which I hope was a memorable experience for you.

Elle and Zara are very friendly and welcoming as well as excellent cooks. They've done an impressive amount with the farm in the relatively short time they've had it, going from almost nothing to a place full of veggies, fruit trees and and animals in just a few years. In addition to everyday task of weeding, harvesting and caring for the animals i got to shear sheep and help with chicks that hatched while i was there.
