We are an agrotoursim farm in Southern Albania
Albania
We are an American husband and wife who moved to Albania nearly six years ago to create our dream farm! In the beautiful countryside just a short drive from a bustling tourist hub we created "Bote Farms". Bote means 'World' in Albanian and to date we have hosted over 200 travelers from all over the world. Our farm consists of vegetable crops and a small barn of rescue animals and wild nature paths.
Farming is quite seasonal as you can imagine. Our land had not been farmed for over a hundred years so we do a lot of work with soil augmentation. We like to read up on the latest in farming trends and try out new ideas. The animals are fed by wwoofers daily and you will enjoy getting to know our friendly goats, pigs, chickens and donkeys. We plant and maintain an acre crop field as well as six "pocket" gardens.
We have a staff house where wwoofers share space. There are multiple toilets and showers. We have a staff kitchen that is stocked weekly with vegetarian supplies. Volunteers cook for themselves and we find there is always a good cook in the group and some handy dishwashers as well. For special cravings, you are welcome to supplement the kitchen (we supply vegetarian ingredients but you are welcome to cook meat). We usually cook at least once a week for everyone and more when their our holidays. While our restaurant is open during the tourist season, there are plenty of additional leftovers and you will learn how to make an Albanian byrrek!
Kyle is a musician and often lend a guitar or banjo for like minded players. Shawn is a chef and loves to experiment in the kitchen. We have some great card games to teach and play, have a stock of books and board games. Often we will teach a yoga class depending on our work schedule. Exploring town is easy and we are close to two UNESCO Heritage sites. There is an archeological site a nice hike from the farm as well as lovely rivers, mountains and beautiful sea and beaches.

We are so incredibly grateful for our experience at Bote Farm with Kyle and Shawn. A true blessing and privilege to have worked and grown alongside this beautiful place. We were provided with amazing opportunities to venture the area, sleep peacefully and enjoy exploring the use of fresh produce. We always had more than enough of everything we could’ve needed, for which we are so thankful It was so much fun having something new to do everyday, whether with animals, building, or gardening we were constantly learning new methods and skills. We left feeling so rewarded and relaxed and once again for that we are so grateful. Thank you for having us Bote Farm!!! We appreciate everything!

I spent 4 weeks on Shawn and Kyle's farm in the beautiful albanian countryside. Work was okay, and every day the team spoke through the tasks of the day, leaving room for questions and requests. What I have to say though about my visit i that if you expect to live and eat there for free you will be disappointed. We were given the basics of everyday cooking, though there were many times we ran out of things like milk or vegetables , and the provided food was mostly carbs. Cheese, butter and other "luxury items" we had to purchase ourselves. The property is beautiful and I am really glad to have lived there, although there is a great difference between the accomodations that are being rented (the villas) and the accommodations for wwoofers. It is one common sleeping room with a common bathroom and two toilets. The kitchen is also shared by all the volunteers. All in all I'm very grateful to having had the opportunity to make this experience, and having met all of the people who worked there with me.

Lol, Lore, yes there is a big difference between the business villas that we rent to tourists in the summer and the volunteer accommodations. There is not, however a big difference between the volunteer accommodations and our (the hosts) apartment. You are given access to a beautiful swimming pool and land and the opportunity to lead a simple life. That is what farm life is all about. In real life sometimes we run out of things and maybe one day you do without until you are able to get to the store. You will learn that's part of being a grown up.
