Indonesia
About us and our place
We are an Indonesian couple who live on Malenge Island, Togean Islands, Sulawesi. My
husband Ating Solihin is a retired medical doctor and I was a librarian at the Green School, Bali.
Malenge Island is a popular destination among European travelers because of
its beautiful seascape and landscape and of the richness of its marine and terrestrial biodiversity.
Our main activity is protecting the endemic, endangered species of Malenge Island such as
macaque monkey, tarsier (tiny monkey), babirusa (pigdeer), cuscus (marsupial mammal like
koala in Australia), coconut crab, and many kinds of bird like hornbills. In addition, we do
gardening because there is no market on the island. We plant vegetables and fruit trees and use
the rotten leaves and other organic matter from the forest for fertilizer.
Activities of volunteers
Our volunteers would work in the morning (7-12 a.m.) in the gardens, creating new garden
or tending the existing ones. Some days they work in the forest, opening new trails or clearing
the old ones. After lunch they are free to do anything they enjoy such as snorkeling on the reefs
in front of our bay and along the surrounding coast, rowing kayak or canoe, trekking in the
forest.
Bed and food
For the time being our guest hut is still under construction. The volunteers would sleep on the
mattress we put on the long bench in the Dr. DoLittle Learning Center. It is a semi-open building
by the beach with beautiful panorama and well ventilated and lighting. But as it has no bathroom,
the volunteers would share the bathroom of our house, just a few meters away. They would also
share meals in our house and would be happy if their love n help me cooking
There is no online connection in our place but our resort neighbor, the Cliff, has a wi-fi
transponder that the volunteers can connect their laptop or cellphone in case in urgent need.
Absolute conditions
We only accept volunteers who are willing to stay two week or longer and able to eat simple
vegetarian foods with us.

Hi,
I don’t see an option to message the host. Are you taking volunteers? Thank you
Reply from Meidy
Yes but the reply is rather late due to poor online connection in our island.
