1. Finca La Chaya is a 400ha Cattle Farm since 1882. My husband Peter and me grew up in Germany with a almost "green" education. When we decided to manage the farm, we moved from Germany to Mexico in 2009. Since then, the farm is managed in a completely organic way. We are looking for people who can contribute with their knowledge to improve our methods and become more efficient. Please, please, please...it's only recommended for hard working people. Nature here is rough, sun burns, insects chase you, reptils can come out of the nothing. Strong physical work 💪 is our daily bread. We nearly do all by ourselves and Wwoofers can join the activities: seed corn, get the milk from our mother cows (by hand!), making cheese, move the cattle from land to land, process the meet in our little butcher store, repair maschines etc etc. There are a lot of things to do. As there is such a variety of work to do and it takes time to explain and show you around, we only accept a duration of stay of minimum 4 weeks. The next city is only five minutes away (by car) and there our Wwoofers can rest and get to know a typical mexican small town.

I really enjoyed my stay at la Chaya and made good friends in the two months there. If you wanna be a real Cowboy once in your life, here you go. You will learn how to ride for sure. The work at the farm is physical, so you should be prepared for that. Often we repaired the fences for the cattle or made them new, which requires strong hands and stamnia, also when we made new wooden posts by cutting trees with the axe. But dont be afraid, lots of workers are around to support you and work together all the day (wih Octavio, Karlos, Camilo, Pedro, Paco, Gil..) always had a lot of fun working with them and in the end they were like a family for me. If you are able to handle a tractor or you are able to support in repairing machines you will have lots of chances to do so. The work starts early in the morning around 6am with milking the cows, however usually i arived at 7am when the workers go into the fields and worked untill 1pm with 1h rest. The accomodation is about 3,5km from the farm in the heart of Coita (Ocozocoautla). I had a huge room in a beautyful villa, which is almost like or even better than a hotel. You live in the villa of Peters (host) mom, where you are together with here employees (Sebastian, Cintia, Pancho, many more) as she needs fulltimecare due to here age. To go to work you will get a motorbike or car, so you should have a driving licence. And buy boots in the rainseason, there will be mud! There are also wonderful destinations to visit at weekends nearby..
