Shamba Miti Mingi is a new Permaculture project.  We wish to show an example how we can grow a lot of vegetables  and fruit trees dispite  big challenges, like poor sandy soil, long dry periods and a very hot climate.  By tradition most shamba owners grow Coconuts, Mango and Cashewnuts. Seldom you see any biodiversity of trees and very few vegetables. In fact most of the shamba land around us lies idle. We are now two people who have done the Permaculture Design Course. We feel very inspired as these methods of farmig fit very well to cope with our challenges.  Make good soil and lots of mulching, recreate the forest structure! We hope that more people will come and see our work  to deveop their precious land. We have two donkeys and a cat and a dog to help us. Organic methods: Biological pest management, organic gardening, permaculture, syntropic agroforestry Certifications: Our requests for certification is under application process Current projects: 1. Renovation of eco houses 2. Renewing raised beds and mulching 3. Construction of nursery beds and seedlings Please it is good to stay for a while. Minimum 3-4 weeks! Internet access available

I spent 3 Weeks on Lamu island. It is a beautiful island and their farm is so too. Christina and Paul are an older sweedish couple and they are wonderful hosts. Paul is more quiet and Christina can talk a lot. They really wanted me to have a good time there. There were also other people working on the farm which are really nice as well, they explained me a lot. But them and Christina didn't always have the same opinion. Our tasks in the garden were watering (the plants there need a lot of water!), weeding, cutting branches of trees, giving different kinds of fertilizer (like our urine and poo, banana peel water, different manure, different compost, leavs from trees) to the plants, reaking, sometimes planting, Christina also cares a lot about how everything looks... I could also spend a few days in thier hotel, which which was very great to explore the island. Uf you don't like insects, this may not be the right place for you, because there are a lot.

I had a great time at Kiki’s and Paul’s shamba. I stayed for one month in the January. The place was beautiful and i learned so much about permaculture. Lamu is an incredibly beautiful island and I’d recommend everyone to go. Im grateful I had this opportunity. Kiki is very ambitious and she’ll definitely teach you a lot. Also had an amazing time with Kogalo, Atmat and Mathias and his family. Thank you for everything.

I spent 10 days at the farm and enjoyed every aspects of my stay. The daily activities were diverse (spanning watering, raking and mulching, cashew nuts harvesting, transplanting fruit trees and hibiscus...), which I really liked. The farm is ideal to witness some permaculture principles: ie. different types of compost in use, diverse plants and fruit trees integrated in the food forest...It's impressive to see what grows despite the sandy soil. Christina and Kogalo as well as the rest of the team are very knowlegeable and it has been a pleasure to work and discuss with them all. The farm is also ideally situated, in a quiet area not too far from the beach. I Strongly recommend this farm to anyone interested in permaculture and wholheartedly thank Christina, Paul and the farm team :-)

I had a great time at Shamba Mingi. Unfortunately I could not meet Christina and Paul, but they are very responsive and organized everything. The farm is beautiful, mostly made of a variety of trees. The team on the farm is kind, fun, and very welcoming. And the two kids are adorable… Work included composting, mulching, pruning, planting, etc. The accommodation is very adequate. Make sure to discover Lamu during your free time!

I stayed at the Shamba for 2 weeks and I really enjoyed my time there! Kiki, Paul and all the staff are great and inspirational people and I really learned a lot regarding permaculture and the life on Lamu island. The communication is great and I felt very welcome and safe all the time. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone! Take care and safe travels!

Shamba Miti Mingi was my first Wwoof, and I had an amazing experience. I was received well at Subira House by Kennedy, and all the people working at Subira House were very friendly. I didn't have any knowledge on organic farming, but Mathias and Athman were very patient with me. They taught me how to water the plants, prepare the seedbeds, make compost manure, mulching, pruning, and many other things. I learnt how to prepare Swahili dishes from Emily {she's a great cook}, and Milka her daughter was the definition of a true friend {she's almost 3}. Christina and Paul were not around when I came, but she responded very quickly whenever I reached out to her. When Christina came back, she took me to Earth Love Ltd in Shela {it's a permaculture farm}, to learn more about permaculture. We also attended a Yoga session together {it was Lamu Yoga Festival Season}. Christina has an outgoing personality which makes it easier to interact with her, and I liked her honesty in real life situations. The trees at Shamba offer a nice shade and breeze during the day when it's hot, and at night, the view of the Shamba from the sitting area in the main house is magnificent. The ocean waves are very calming and soothing at night. Shamba was a great place for connecting with myself and nature, facing my fears, broadening my perspective about life and slowing down. It was home away from home. Thank you very much Christina and Paul for having me in your Shamba!
