Organic essential oils destillery and farming
Uruguay
"La Colo " are Cecilia and I, with our daughter Luisa (4)and my children Inti (15)and Violeta(17), We live on a 4-hectare farm with 2 other families, 30 minutes from the center of Montevideo, near a fishing village call "La Colorada" located within the protected area" humedales del Santa Lucia" and in front of the "Rio de la Plata" .
We have a small family destilerie of organic essential oils, cultivation and production of organic food as well.
Actually our project aims mainly to improve our family buisnes of essential oils.
We can offer accommodation (see photos): It consists of a rustic house with a large living room and integrated bedroom, bathroom and kitchen, with electric light, refrigerator, stove and cold water, also tent. And the following meal plan: lunch, dinner and breakfast Normally the guests make their own meals, they have everything they need to cook, we can also share some of the meals. What we ask in return is commitment to the planned work activities, which are normally 5 hours a day, although it can vary depending on the activities.
We are aligned with the spirit of woof: The experience of living on a farm is not a vacation, we are not interested in receiving people who only are looking for cheap accommodation while traveling.
We are looking for working, committed and proactive people with some experience in rural life and who want to continue learning about agroecological practices in the production of food and essential oils, and also share your experience, knowlege and culture with us in order to promote an educational exchange, and build a global community conscious of ecological farming practices.
Our intention is to live in contact with nature, under the principles of permaculature: respect for the earth, for people, sharing what life offers us with respect, joy and fairness.
The main tasks carried out in our farm are: prune the aromatic plants that we use for the production of organic essential oils, destilation, maintenance and weeding of cultivation area( fruits, vegetables and aromatic plants) construction and maintenance, care of animals( chikens) and many other activities.

Staying with Arturo, Cecilia, and their wonderful daughter Luisa at La Colorada was truly one of the most beautiful and enriching experiences of our lives!
From the very first moment, they welcomed us with open arms and made us feel like part of their family. Arturo and Cecilia share their deep knowledge about sustainable living, farming, and distilling essential oils with incredible generosity, passion, and patience.
The work was varied, meaningful, and always adapted to our interests and abilities.
Every meal was a celebration: fresh, healthy, and often made with ingredients grown right there on their land. Arturo’s legendary polenta easily deserves three Michelin stars, and his fainá is something we’ll be trying to recreate for years to come. Whenever we sip Grappa, we’ll be raising a glass to our unforgettable time in Uruguay.
Even more nourishing were the conversations, the laughter shared with little Luisa, and the deep connection with nature that surrounded us every day. They have created a beautiful paradise, where parrots chirp, the waves of the Río de la Plata whisper in the distance, and the wind dances gently through their newly planted agroforestry.
La Colorada is much more than just a farm — it’s a place that feeds the body, mind, and soul. We left with a full heart, countless wonderful memories, and a deep gratitude for everything we learned and experienced.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! We truly hope our paths will cross again one day! <3
