Family farm
Finland
WE HAVE NOW ENOUGH WWOOFERS FOR THIS YEAR 2025
We , I and my husband Sauvo, have a small farm in Eastern-Finland now with about 20 sheep, two horses and one cat. We offer bed and breakfast troughout the year, the busiest time of the tourism is the summer. We have beautiful sceneries from our hill. Some parts of our area is in the Natura2000-protection program. We enjoy of living in the countryside and doing outside work. We try to live ecologically and learn old ways of working. Sauvo works in our forests only with manual tools. Our sheep work during the summertime to keep the sceneries open. One horse we use also to work. Our animals are original Finnish races, sheep are rare Kainuu grey-sheep. Our house is originally built in 1894, now it has all modern facilities, we keep it warm by wood and we have also solar energy panels to give us some extra electricity.
In the spring beginning in April there is a lot of work: taking care of lambing and the lambs, shearing the sheep, making/repairing fences for the sheep and horses, cleaning the whole house for the summer season, also baking for the summer, making daily meals for everybody, some garden work and our favorite - working in our forest. In the end of August to September is another busy time.
We work together with You and learn You all tasks, You can also tell us what kind of work You like to do.
Your accommodation is in a room for one or two, sheets and towels included. You get working overall and boots, bathrobe here, we have washing machine, so you don't need to bring too much clothes but anyway something warm for cold weather even in the summertime, in April it can still be real winter. In the summer sunscreen/sunglasses may be useful.
We eat normal Finnish food - breakfast, lunch, dinner - vegetarian or gluteinfree meals are possible. Everybody makes meals sometimes and attend household works.
You are learned to visit Finnish sauna. Nearest lake is 1,6 km away for swimming.

I spent 2.5 weeks on Meri's farm and I would have stayed double that if I could. Now, when I am stressed and need to go to my happy place, I think of cutting alders under the Finnish sun. Be sure to listen to the boss (Vihuti, the cat), though! ;)

My 2- month- stay was awesome! Meri is a wonderful host. I really enjoyed the different kinds of work at the farm and the nature around the farm.
I learned a lot of different things (about sheep, Finland, forests, ...) during my stay.
It was my first WWOOFing experience and I can highly recomment this farm. The working time and free days are clearly communicated, what I really liked!
All animals are tame and behave nicely.

Meri was an excellent host. She taught me so many things, and went out of her way to show us around her part of the world. If you can stay with her, I highly recommend!

I highly recommend this farm!! I was a first time WWOOFer and I couldn’t have picked a better place to go. Meri made me feel so welcomed when I was there and the work was very rewarding. Truly an amazing experience!

We had a very lovely time at Meri's farm :) Visiting in late June meant there were adorable lambs to care for, and we learned a lot about how to raise them into adulthood.
Our accommodation was cozy and comfortable, and we really appreciated having our own space to retreat to when needed. We all respected each other's privacy, allowing us to feel completely at ease whenever we needed a break or were not working.
Meri herself is welcoming, full of knoweldge, and incredibly generous. She often offered trips into town, gave us mini tours, and shared interesting facts about the local area. She made sure our work was well-balanced between more physically intensive labor and fun and relaxing activities—like making pancakes over a campfire after cutting and sorting felled trees.
We especially appreciated the structured daily schedule, which encouraged all WWOOFers to share the workload fairly.
Extra plus: We got to enjoy the sauna several times, which felt like such a treat and added to the special atmosphere of the place.
We can definitely recommend coming to this farm. It’s a peaceful, inspiring place with a caring host and plenty of happy sheep.
