I am a Dutch citizen and have been visiting Kyrgyzstan for over 30 years. For my work as consultant for a Dutch engineering company, I drafted a strategy for sustainable development for the Issyk-Kul region and the village of Grigorievka. After that, I decided to execute a part of the strategy myself, in partnership with local NGOs and local people. At Bel-Zhan we focus on sustainable tourism and fruit processing. Both can add substantial value to the present level of income. I like to support the villagers in developing their livelihood in a sustainable way, using environmental friendly materials and technologies and doing community based business. In June-October we harvest, process (mainly dry) and pack fruits from the garden (raspberries, apricots, cherries, prunes, apples, pears) and wild berries (seabuck thorn and berberis) in order generate income and preserve the bushes that are important for the ecosystem, and thus add value to the local economy and enhance sustanaible development. For summer 2022 (June-October) we are looking for WWOOFers who can help rharvest, process and pack fruits and berries. We can also use hands in April-May in building up the lodge . The fruits grow in our own garden , the seabuckthorn berries and berberis near the lake shore. The lodge has a house in which I live myself, and with a small seperate room for a volunteer. Toilets (waterflushed) and showers (hot water from a solar boiler) are in the garden. We have a cook, a driver, some technical help and a cleaning person. Certifications: In the course of aranging certification for sea buck thorn berries - fair wild, complicated procedure, expensive and the first time in Kyrgyzstan Internet access available
