We are now fully booked for the growing season 2026 and cannot host more volunteers. For 2027 there is not yet confirmed visits.
Northern summer is short and intensive. June-july sun shines night and day, midnight sun boosts us for long working days, which we then compensate during winter. If you are ready for flexible tasks and working hours (still 20-30 hours per week should be sufficient for a volunteer) and want to learn norther cropping and sheep husbandry, our farm could be a place for you. June-September our sheep are out on the pasture, small pieces of grassland in the surrounding village. We will produce roughage (hay, silage) for our sheep, grains (oats, barley, peas) they need and some vegetables as well. Vegetables are mostly for other farms, who store, package and market those to wholesale market. Helping hands are mainly needed from early may until november. Depending on your skills and interests, you can help with the sheep (feeding, pasture fencing, shearing etc.), in field work (tractor work, some hand weeding june-july) or in our private kitchen to ensure proper meals for all of us. Field operations are limited to june-october. A driving licence (car) is a big plus, as well as some experience in construction work. We, farmers are appr. 60 years old, our children are already working elsewhere. We are also running another ag-related small business (Elomestari Oy) and active in culture and politics locally. In our house, we have two extra rooms upstairs, so there should be a peaceful corner to accomodate yourself. In your own time, the biggest free (no power plants!) river in Finland offers excellent opportunities for fishing and recreational purposes. Since we can not offer independent, simple an monotonous work for totally unskilled workers, we wish you to stay few weeks or longer. Thereby you are able to learn us, our farm and surroungings to work independently, without our continous supervision.
