What is WWOOF®?

Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF) links visitors with organic farmers, promotes an educational and cultural exchange and builds a global community conscious of ecological farming practices.

WWOOF was founded in 1971 and is one of the world’s first educational and cultural exchange programs. Today, WWOOF is in more than 132 countries around the world (and growing).

WWOOF Independents

WWOOF Independents is a network that makes WWOOFing possible in countries without a locally-based organization. Please check the list of countries included.

Visitors, or 'WWOOFers', share in daily life with their host and learn about organic agriculture, while spending about half of each day helping out on a farm.

My stay with Joette and Lorin was incredibly enriching in so many ways. The two of them are truly warm-hearted hosts who make you feel at home right away. The way they guide the work on the farm is so respectful, and they’re always eager to explain things and share their knowledge. There’s so much to explore, to learn, and to really throw yourself into. At the same time, they make sure the WWOOFers never feel overwhelmed and that everyone has a wonderful stay. Thank you both for these deeply impactful experiences! I was able to take so much with me — from learning about mushrooms, to new perspectives on food and the realization that loving animals and eating meat can coexist, to insights into human connection, to embracing non-perfection in the best possible way… and so much more! I’m so glad I got to meet you! You two were the perfect finale to my Scandinavia trip. ;)

To anyone who comes across this comment, I can only encourage you to visit Brenda! The house she lives in, in the middle of the desert near Disah, has a magnificent garden where Brenda tends to dozens of beautiful plant species daily. Around it live nine horses, three dogs, a large number of cats, chickens, and pigeons. Every stay is different, but for me, during the three weeks I stayed, my tasks were as follows: - Feeding the dogs, horses, and chickens, and cleaning the enclosures. - Harvesting tea. - Pruning the trees. - Maintaining the garden. - Making plant supports. - Building a fountain. - Putting tires in the horse enclosures. - Occasionally preparing food (mostly pancakes). - Cleaning. - Preparing paving stones to build a small patio. - Pressing olives to make oil. The schedule was extremely flexible and communication with Brenda was incredibly easy, allowing me time to read, relax, go for walks, or learn to ride a horse (thanks, Alva!). No two days were the same, and I met a lot of people, especially Bedouins with whom Brenda works daily and who gave me a glimpse into their culture. In any case, don't hesitate, these weeks I spent here were among the best of my life!

This was our first WWOOF experience, and Reda was the perfect introduction to the program! WWOOFers stay in a separate lodging at the top of the hill on the farm while Reda stays separately on the property. My partner and I were the only ones in the home for the most part but it can accommodate up to 5 guests. There’s a kitchen with a gas stove and an indoor restroom. Tap water can be limited but it wasn't a challenge to wash/cook/shower etc. and there’s plenty of drinking water. The work pace was relaxed during our stay. The project we worked on involved carpentry and Reda was hands on throughout. We’d start around 10 after breakfast and he’d explain what we were doing, how to do it and was open to our input/ideas. After we were comfortable with the work, Reda would leave and check in later in the evening after dinner. We ate lunch around noon and then finish around 6. While Reda was gone, we were never alone as Rashid, who lived with his entire family on the property, would be around to help out if needed. He didn’t speak much English but we communicated fine. Later during our stay, Bouziane, another craftsman, stayed on the property and was helpful too. Overall the experience was fun and Reda was pleasant to have conversations with. Sometimes we'd all hang out on his porch. Hadija was also a great addition to the group every time she stopped by and made the best meals. Definitely recommend this place and be prepared to be unplugged as service is minimal in the area.

Absolutely fantastic! The farm is beautiful, situated just outside the village in the woods by the river and growing a diverse range of organic produce working towards establishing a permaculture. It was a pleasure getting to know Sampada and Madhu and their two lovely dogs! I learned a great deal for my work on the farm, and thoroughly enjoyed spending most of the rest of my time writing music. Sunita tai made fantastic food every day and I feel nourished from my visit. I hope to come back to Chirak Van someday and see how it has continued to grow.

We spent five weeks at Jennifer's place (Edens Door). It was a truly magical stay! We felt as if we have made a life long connection with Jennifer - they are an inspiration to us both. The work was tough but rewarding. We worked 5 days out of 7. You can use your own initiative, build skills and achieve a heck of a lot here - it truly is what you make of it! Be prepared to work hard, be flexible and open-minded to this experience. Jennifer herself was a remarkable and incredible host. Culturally she invites you into so many different aspects of Tobago life - this was a real joy! In terms of the cuisine it was another particular highlight! You get fed breakfast and dinner on the days you work and this meant we had some outstanding Tobago dishes featuring a lot of fresh ingredients. These meals were simply the best and a great opportunity to learn more from Jennifer. For accomodation we were provided with an outdoor glamping-style, private cabin. As nature lovers, we enjoyed waking up to the dawn chorus and seeing copious species of hummingbirds outside our front door. We stayed for five weeks, and would recommend others to stay for a minimum of a month to truly integrate yourself into the Tobagan lifestyle. Outside of working, Eden's Door is ideally located, with some incredible beaches located within a 10 mile radius. It is also near to the airport and situated nearby two major towns. We loved how close by all the islands attractions were, and felt that we saw so m

I stayed at Farm Elbaya for 2 weeks and I am superhappy with this experience! During the two weeks I got to work a lot which I really enjoyed. The work was fun and I got to try lot of different tasks. Everyday was different, some day you help with building and fixing and some other day you plant trees and help with beekeeping. Even though you havent done the task or used some tool before, Mahdi teaches you and lets you to try everything. The farm is very beautiful, peaceful and calm. You can see that everything on the farm is made with love and purpose. You feel good and relaxed there! Mahdi and his family are very friendly and welcoming. I also enjoyed a lot to spend time with the animals. The food that you get there is the best food that you will get in Tunisia! It is made my Mahdis mom and it is fresh, super delicious and organic. I also enjoyed a lot to train with Mahdi. He is a great goach! His workouts are fun, diverse and playful and I got lot of inspiration from him for my own workouts. Especially I am excited to train more handstanding because with Mahdis help it got improved a lot, even just in 2 weeks! If you are looking for some authentic experience in Tunisia from the local point of view, Farm Elbaya is a great choice for that!
